Week 4

The weeks sure are flying by with only two days in person. We are making the most of them and staying busy!

Here the kids are working on their math packets outside, socially distanced, which is why they are allowed to have their masks off- on our beautiful front lawn. At this time we are practicing place value knowledge and counting skills.













In Science we are talking about Force and Motion. We learned about different types of bridges and how the pushes and pulls of different materials can depend on what type of bridge you would build. We thought about how to make our bridges sturdy and strong. The main challenge was to see who could hold the most pennies on their bridges. I think the winner (Jaxon) had 25 pennies. He then helped others to make their bridges strong. The winning design used columns for strength!

All is going well in THIRD Grade! So far we are just continuing to get to know each other, as well as the rules and routines of the classroom. We are doing everything we can to be safe with one another, respectful of people's feelings and responsible for ourselves. One good thing to come out of all these changes is the small amount of students we have, and our new awareness of getting outside. Here are some of the activities that we did this week! Week 8

 Happy November! I hope everyone had a safe and fun Halloween this weekend. A few reminders for you; if you need any winter gear (for anyone in the family) please let me know so I can help you with this. I have also asked that you sign up for a Parent/Teacher conference via zoom this year! Happening on Friday and next Monday. Students will be dismissed at 11:30. I sent a sign up sheet to you via email and via your students back. Please let me know a time that will work for you. Last week's pictures: We are continuing to strengthen our knowledge of place value, using different strategies to solve addition and subtraction problems. Here the students are playing games during their "get to" time. When they finish their work for the day, they have a list of choices that they can pick from. Hello Families!  I’m testing out a new way to keep you in the loop. My blog!  Our current science and literacy theme has us studying landforms. I asked the kids to build an island out of salt dough. They had to include three high land forms and three bodies of water. They had to make it look realistic. Here, they are using realistic colors to paint their islands! Every Tuesday for STEAM, we have a building challenge. Last week, we our challenge was to design and build a haunted house.  This last group of pictures is of students modeling how erosion makes rocks break down over time and can end up as pebbles on a beach!
