Week 12 + 13

Hello Geckos!!

I hope everyone had a lovely Thanksgiving break and mini vacation. It was awesome to see the kids in person last week, two weeks without them was A LOT.

They continue to do so well with the routines and expectations, they are flexible and work really hard while they are at school. I am so proud of them.

Here are some photos of kickball outside at recess- social interaction, being a good "sport" and team player, learning how to take turns, lose and be a kind winner, are all important skills to learn while at school, too!




In math we are continuing to focus on different strategies for solving problems. We have worked with tape diagram and place value chart. The kids have been doing a great job with this. In the work that is coming home, you will notice a lot of hundreds chart, counting forward and backwards practice. Solidifying their knowledge of these number patterns is what will help them continue to be successful as we work on harder math problems and eventually transition into multiplication.





In social studies we are wrapping up our Vermont project. Students wrote postcards containing beautiful pictures and facts or information that they learned during our unit of study. They designed their card and wrote two facts in letter form, using their notes as a guide. The postcards came out awesome!






Please be aware that our remote learning schedule has changed a little bit. Each child now has a reading group at 9, directly after morning meeting, AND a one on one zoom time with either me or Miss Edna. The new schedule went home with them in their bags on Friday. Thank you for your continued support and flexibility as we figure out the best ways to support all students through this wild time.

    I see Cameron kicking the ball, and all my friends having fun playing kickball. Kickball, I believe, is their favorite sport to play at school. We are all practicing being good sports, taking turns, and having patience with our friends. Most of the time this happens, but sometimes not...that's life and we continue to grow and learn.
    Love having recess with my friends and participating in their super fun game of kickball!

All is going well in THIRD Grade! So far we are just continuing to get to know each other, as well as the rules and routines of the classroom. We are doing everything we can to be safe with one another, respectful of people's feelings and responsible for ourselves. Week 8

 Happy November! I hope everyone had a safe and fun Halloween this weekend. A few reminders for you; if you need any winter gear (for anyone in the family) please let me know so I can help you with this. I have also asked that you sign up for a Parent/Teacher conference via zoom this year! Happening on Friday and next Monday. Students will be dismissed at 11:30. I sent a sign up sheet to you via email and via your students back. Please let me know a time that will work for you. Last week's pictures: We are continuing to strengthen our knowledge of place value, using different strategies to solve addition and subtraction problems. Here the students are playing games during their "get to" time. When they finish their work for the day, they have a list of choices that they can pick from. Miss Ali’s Grade 2 Gecko’s

Hello Families!  I’m testing out a new way to keep you in the loop. My blog!  Our current science and literacy theme has us studying landforms. I asked the kids to build an island out of salt dough. They had to include three high land forms and three bodies of water. They had to make it look realistic. Here, they are using realistic colors to paint their islands! Every Tuesday for STEAM, we have a building challenge. Last week, we our challenge was to design and build a haunted house.  This last group of pictures is of students modeling how erosion makes rocks break down over time and can end up as pebbles on a beach!
